Verdict: 5 stars Out of the seven different Nik plug-ins I get most use out of three or four of them. But for me, those three or four plug-ins easily justify the cost of the Nik Collection on their own. They don’t just offer tools you won’t find anywhere else, they make them easy to understand and apply with almost infinite variety. The Nik Collection deserves to be considered one of the key editing tools in digital photography.
Color Efex Pro (Nik Collection)
A software plug in that’s part of the DxO Nik collection. Color Efex Pro offers a huge variety of preset image effects you can browse through and apply to your photos with a single click, but you can also adjust the filters manually and even stack them to create custom ‘recipes’. Color Efex Pro also offers localised adjustments via ‘control points’.
Nik Collection 6 Control Lines: what they are, how they work
These Control Lines can already be found in DxO PhotoLab 6, but they are new to the Nik Collection 6. Control Lines are a special kind of selective masking tool. They work like a linear gradient tool, but with an eyedropper which can be moved around to select the tones or areas you want the mask to be applied to.
DxO Nik Collection 6 announced: local adjustments improved, new features
There are no new plug-ins in the Nik Collection 6 this time around, but significant feature additions to some and improved local adjustment tools across the board.
