07 Harsh highlights
But this time, it’s the highlights which have suffered. The shadows adjustment has given the darker tones in the picture extra richness and depth, but the brighter tones, such as those in the cockpit canopy, look harsh, and the finer detail is starting to disappear.
08 Pegging the highlights
So I’ll do what I did last time, but now I’ll ‘peg’ the highlights by adding a control point (1) about a quarter of the way from the top and then leaving it there to fix the highlights in place. Now I can add another control point in the shadows area and drag it downwards, darkening the shadow tones to achieve the same richness and depth I achieved with the S-shaped curve – but without compromising the highlights.
