Category: HDR Efex Pro

For a time, HDR Efex Pro was one of the best and simplest HDR tools on the market. Now, MacPhun Aurora HDR puts it in the shade a little and if you want naturalistic HDR rather than wild effects, it’s hard to beat Lightroom’s HDR Merge feature or Affinity Photo’s Tonemapping Persona.

But HDR Efex Pro can still create some evocative and striking effects, and it’s part of the Nik Collection which is of course free.

HDR Efex Pro can merge a series of individual exposures into an HDR composite, or it can apply its wide range of presets to single images – quite often, a single RAW file will capture the whole brightness range in a scene, so you don’t need an exposure series.

The tools can get a little technical once you stray away from the presets and start using the manual controls, not least because HDR software makers seem to like making up their own technical adjustments.

So here are some HDR Efex Pro tutorials to get you started.
